The Desert Spring whole house furnace humidifier is a high-end humidification system that sells for considerably less than spray units. The patented design of the unit centers on a cylinder of 43 ring-shaped, heat-engineered plastic disks enclosed in a drum. These disks rotate through a reservoir of water in the bottom of the drum, picking up water that immediately evaporates as heated air from the furnace blows through the drum chamber.
Unlike other whole house furnace humidifiers on the market, the Desert Spring furnace humidifier is 100% efficient in its water use — our product only uses the water required to bring the home up to the desired humidity level. The Desert Spring furnace Humidifier’s design cuts water usage to a mere fraction of what is required in traditional flow-through and spray system units, which can waste up to seven times the amount of water they require to produce humidified air, or the equivalent of flushing a toilet more than 60 times per day.
In addition to the savings through efficient water use, the Desert Spring furnace humidifier eliminates problems created by mineralization. The patented design of the Desert Spring Power Humidifier includes plastic disks that pick up a thin film of water when rotating through the lower reservoir, and this water is immediately evaporated by the air flowing from the furnace, leaving particles loosely attached to the disks. As the disks rotate again through the water, the particles are rinsed off and collect in the bottom of the basin. This makes for easy cleaning, since all that needs to be done is to open the built-in drain valve.
The Desert Spring furnace humidifier contains no absorbent pads or screens to promote crystal growth from mineral deposits, which results in the elimination of regular maintenance required by conventional drum and pad type humidifiers. On conventional furnace-mounted humidifiers, pads or screens of absorbent material deliver the moisture to the airflow in the furnace. This is initially effective; however, mineral deposits quickly accumulate on the evaporative surfaces, requiring monthly maintenance and regular replacement of the pads, motors and trays. The average humidifier installed in North America experiences a severe decline in performance in less than three months. The Desert Spring furnace humidifier does not decline in performance, as proven through ten-year accelerated operation tests and over 15,000 households.
Prior to its commercial launch in 1997, the Desert Spring furnace humidifier
was extensively tested at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology,
such testing based on ARI Standard 610 protocol, as published by the
Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute. Ten years’ use equivalency tests were
completed at 100% success rate.
